The Most Profitable Small Businesses To Start

A lot of people ask this question, so Thomas Stanley (PF researcher of millionaires extraordinaire) listed out the stats for where you can make the most money as a self-employed, small business owner:

  • management services on a contract basis, .55 <— My job
  • engineering services, .44
  • real estate property managers, .40
  • medical and dental laboratories, .40
  • child daycare, .39
  • barber shops.38
  • janitorial/dust contol services, .33.

He goes on to note: “you may wish to avoid opening a gift shop, for example, since the average income of the more than 105,000 stores of this type was only $7.70!”

Ouch.

The above stats are also not set in stone for me, because not ALL of the above businesses will guarantee you big bucks, and not all gift shops are flops.

Interesting stuff.

Also, if you haven’t done so already, read this book that changed my PF habits and life: The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas Stanley.
