Whenever we talk about trying to save a buck in our spending it’s always about cutting back and cutting something out of your budget.
The other part we all seem to forget is that we don’t have to cut something out.
We can just delay the spending. No need to cut it out, just do it less.
What can you delay but not cut?
- Haircuts/Hair colouring
- Pedicures/Manicures
- Eating Out/Going Out
- Using your phone so often (find a landline for free or just wait)
- Going on a mini trip (perhaps wait until you’ve completed a milestone)
- Toiletries such as contact lens solution, toothpaste — use less, or be more careful with spillage
- Updating, upgrading or not trying to make something last down to its last legs
Those are just a few ideas. They might not seem like important things to delay on, but I can tell you having a haircut makes a huge difference in how you feel and look.
Anyway. Just a thought. You can cut back without cutting out.
I agree with Shelley. I instead rent movies for a $1 at the local library so much more cheaper and you can make your own popcorn at home as well.
I have also cut back a lot on getting my coffee fix from a coffee store to maybe twice a week.
I have also cut back on shopping online from various stores as well. Helps a lot.
These are good tips. I shared some with my wife and she said she could not go without her hair colorings and that it was insurance for her sense of well-being. She says she can’t do it herself well enough and it makes her feel good. It does lead to good results when she goes so i don’t mind that much. Everything else we are pretty good about cutting out. If she’s happy, I’m happy 🙂
I do this all the time but I’ve never really thought of it like this before. When I shop I take my calculator and enter the prices of things as I go. Sometimes I decide that although something is on the list of things to buy, I’ve actually got enough to last until the following week and don’t need to buy. And of course, it does cut down on my spending.
Eating meat, buying clothes, going to movies all come to mind. I was thrilled when I discovered that procrastination could have some positives attached to it!
