Japanese pensioners (engineers) offer to brave radiation risks
This made me cry.
Volunteering to take the place of younger workers at the power station is not brave, Mr Yamada says, but logical.
Mr Yamada has been getting back in touch with old friends via e-mail and even messages on Twitter
“I am 72 and on average I probably have 13 to 15 years left to live,” he says.“Even if I were exposed to radiation, cancer could take 20 or 30 years or longer to develop. Therefore us older ones have less chance of getting cancer.”

17-year old Chinese boy sells his kidney for an iPad 2
Confederate and Union soldiers shake hands across the wall at the 1938 reunion for the Veterans of the Battle of Gettysburg.
The thing I don’t get about the selling a kidney thing is that iPads aren’t THAT expensive. And isn’t the recovery from donating/selling a kidney really horrible and long? Like, in the 2-3 weeks that he recovered from surgery, wouldn’t he be losing the equivalent of an iPad 2 in potential earned wages anyway?
I think it’s a kid.. and the earned wages in China are 500 yuan – 1500 yuan a month, which is $100 – $150 per month. To buy an iPad (the prices are jacked up), you’re looking at almost a year’s worth of wages, BEFORE paying for rent, food and utilities.
TOTORO!!!! LOL!!! Love it!! I would have laughed so much if I saw this when I was in Japan a few years ago!! Great pic!! 😀
It’d be awesome to see a Totoro today.. somewhere in Toronto!
I am really moved by the first article, thanks for sharing
It made me cry. Tears down my cheek.
Every time I read different articles about the culture of Japan (this one
included), I fall in love with them a little bit more
