Don’t worry, I threw a nice mix of geek and chic in there with some of my own favourite items.
I have a lot of things on the list that are under $50, so don’t be fooled by the title.
2010 LIST OF GIFTS
Apple iPod Shuffle = $49
This would be a great gift because it’s small, light, cute and it will clip onto your clothing for when you’re working out or just walking around town running errands.
Jewellery Stand – $59.95
If she’s a girly girl, she’s going to need something to hang all of her jewellery on. Think of it as being practical, beautiful and a piece of art, all at once!
Kate Spade iPod Touch 3G Case – $35
If she doesn’t already have a case, why not get a super cute one? It’s not that much more expensive than the cases in stores, but the colour and pattern is a refreshing change. A $20 alternative can be found here and here, on See Jane Work.
Coco Chanel: The Legend and the Life by Justine Picardie – $26.40
Coco Chanel. Who else, but of Coco can you give a biography of to a fashion lover? This is on my “Must Read” list.
The Jane Necklace by danaleblancdesigns – $64
A bold, chunky necklace that comes in many different colours and is sure to add a pop to any outfit. Not for the faint of heart!
Updated: The coupon code for 20% is FBB2010. It can be used before December 15th 2010.
Obi Belt by FeatherandBean – $38
Adds a nice punch to any outfit. It’s also reversible, so it’s a two-in-one with a plain bronze colour on the other side.
Delicate Petals with Russian Amazonite Earrings by Allison Mooney – $30
Bold and beautiful but still delicate. Makes me think of fairy wings, and they’ll go with any outfit.
Garmin nΓΌvi 205W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator – $93.91
I have the Garmin Nuvi 255W and I ADORE it. This is also a wide-screen (as evidenced by the “W” in the name). It’s such a handy tool for directionally-challenged people such as myself, and I’ve found Garmin to have some of the quickest GPS locators with their satellites and best maps around.
Verbatim Store-and-Go 32GB USB Key – $49.99
This works on both PCs and MACs, but the password protection is only for a PC. 32GB is more than enough space for anyone to backup their important files with, and the password protection is a must. I own this exact USB key, and I like having a USB key that has “public” storage where you don’t need to throw a password on there, and “private” storage that needs a password to access.
Belkin Mini Surge Protector with USB – $24.99
I own this product and love it. If I don’t have a laptop handy, it can be annoying to try and charge your devices that charge via USB, which is why the Belkin comes in handy. It’s also great because it gives you extra plugs in case you’re in a hotel room somewhere and there’s only ONE plug for you to try and charge all of your devices.
Hollywood Fashion Tape – $8.99
For any woman who has ever tried on a shirt only to find this massive gap in between buttons in the bust area, they’re all wishing they had double-stick tape like Hollywood tape. I use this to close up gaps, keep the layers of my clothing together and even to help make a neckline more modest. You can also find alternatives in the drugstore, and I found a similar double-stick tape dispenser for $10CAD at The Bay (or was it Sears?).
Tide-to-Go – $7
I know you’re thinking: Why is this crazy woman suggesting I buy a laundry product as a gift!?
While it isn’t the sexiest present, it is a godsend for those times when you accidentally spill some coffee on your pristine white shirt, or sauce on your pants (*ahem*), Tide-to-Go is an inexpensive clothing saver. It really does remove the stains, and preps the area to keep it ready to be completely cleaned. I once got sticky sweet and sour sauce all over my pants, and I used this pen on it to watch the stain disappear in about 15 minutes. People borrow my pen ALL THE DAMN TIME, so get one for everyone on your list so they’ll stop asking me π
P.S. A great gift basket present would be a “Working Girl’s Survival Kit” for the office. You can also check out an old post of What’s in My Bag too (this has since changed and has to be updated).
Clark’s Revel Hop Sandals – $75.50
These are the most comfortable, beautiful sandals on the market. They’re a high quality as well (Clarks? Hello!! π ) and in a neutral colour, they go with both pants and skirts. The strap across the ankle also makes sure that it stays on your foot while you’re walking, and the low wedge heel is a must for clumsy, unco-ordinated power walking girls like myself.
Rosebud Perfume Co. Rosebud Lip Salve – $9
I bought 3 tubes of this the last time I found an Urban Outfitters because I love the scent and great moisturizing properties. I prefer the tube version rather than in the pot, because I hate dipping my finger into lip balm.
Galison Accordion Organizer – $9.50
Have someone who wants to stay organized but would rather work on paper? Then a portfolio is what she needs. You can also browse this highly addictive site (See Jane Work) for a whole bunch of colourful file and folder options.
Star Wars Plus Doll $8.99 – $39.99
For the Star Wars fan (or not!) these plush dolls are adorable. I rather like the Chewbacca one, and they come in a range of sizes.
Edible Wild Hibiscus Flowers – $10
For the gourmet chef! I’ve never seen (or tasted) these before, but they look beautiful and tasty to boot.
Caffeine Molecule Necklace – $84.99
An interesting gift for the coffee addict lover, rather than just handing them a plain ol’ mug. (Actually, those Starbucks mugs are a great size.)
iGo Universal Charger
OK I can’t stop myself. I’m a gadget-lover at heart, and this is a charger that I’ve used for quite some time now. I kept losing these chargers and forgetting what each one was for (they take up a lot of room!) and when I found iGo Charger, I realized that if I just lost the tips for my device, it’d only cost $7 to replace a charger rather than $30.
You can also bring it around with you to plug into the car as well if you by the car charger attachment.
I also like the multiple charging options and how minimal it is, especially for traveling with a lot of stuff. One caveat: Their site is an utter hot mess, so I suggest going to Future Shop or Best Buy to buy the charger and the tips required.
Urban Decay Naked Eye Palette – $44
If you can get your paws on it, this would be the ultimate coup for any makeup or neutral-eyeshadow makeup newbie such as myself. Actually, if you score one for a friend, can you send another one my way? π
Collection of Sephora Favourites – $20
Who doesn’t love “The Best of Sephora”?
This set contains:
– 0.338 oz Korres Silicone-Free Vitamin E Face Primer
– 0.0005 oz Tarte EmphasEYES in Black
– 0.1 oz Tarte Lash Hugger
– 0.5 oz Ole Henriksen Truth Serum
– 0.08 oz Bare Escentuals 100% Natural Lip Gloss in Rose
– 100 Sheets Boscia Green Tea Blotting Linens
– 0.17 Skyn Iceland Icelandic Relief Eye Cream
– 0.1 oz Plant Love Blush in Peony
– 0.13 oz Josie Maran 100% Organic Argan Oil
If you want to buy a full-sized version of something, or what you see up there doesn’t appeal to you, try Korres White Tea Fluid Cleansing Gel for $21. I am already on my second bottle, which is unheard of for me because I’m a disloyal product purchaser.
On My Own Two Feet: A Modern Girl’s Guide to Personal Finance by Thakor and Kedar – $9.32
Last but not least, seeing as I’m a huge fan of personal finance, if she isn’t already into managing her own money and budgeting, this might be a great book to throw into the mix.
I actually started on “The Millionaire Next Door” and have never read any other PF book that measured up to how that book changed my life, but I can see it being a bit too boring, heavy and data-rich for some.
I <3 the Naked palette. I'm a makeup junkie and that has been sorely lacking in my next-to-nothing budget this year; a friend gave me a gift certificate to Sephora for my birthday and I splurged on this palette. Love it, love it, love it.
But let me let you in on a kind of surprising secret from my formerly make-up snobby self: Wet n Wild, the cheapy drugstore brand that you might have used in high school, is making some kick ass eye shadow these days in what they call "Color Icon" palettes. Six coordinating shadows, great pigmentation, smooth, in MAC knock-off colors, under $5. They're getting great reviews on MakeUpAlley.com and I haven't been disappointed yet. I recently stocked up at Walgreens when they were 50% off and bought one of each of the palettes except for Vanity and the holiday LE Golden Goddess, since golds don't work on me, for $15! These would be fun stocking stuffers if your budget is way under $100!
My recent post Beyond the Rack knocks another gift off my holiday list
Damn it, WTF girl!? I need to NOT BE lusting after this Naked palette. I can\’t find it, I can\’t buy it and I\’m highly annoyed LOL!
Really? Wet and Wild eh? I\’ll have to drop by a Zellers to pick up some shadows. I also like the Annabelle brand, the colours are quite pretty (Gleam = Gold is my favourite).
I really liked 'The Millionaire Next Door', too. Have you read 'Millionaire Women Next Door'? I almost liked it better.
I have it sitting at home beside me π I\’m working through The Millionaire Mind at the moment (have to just buckle down and cosy up to it), and then Millionaire Women next.
What I like about this is most of the gifts are cheap enough that one could mix and match, pick a few and still be under a reasonable amount. Thank you for doing the research for this!
You\’re welcome! I tried to run the gamut. I\’d be happy with any ONE of the items up there (I own quite a few, myself).
These are adorable. I especially like the Coco Chanel book, it just went on my Amazon wishlist. I love her and want to see those movies they made about her, especially with that French actress Audrey Tautou (love her!).
Have you watched Coco et Stravinsky yet? It\’s another movie on Coco Chanel.
I just looked it up on imdb, looks good. Didn’t know about that one. π
There are so many movies I want to watch. Namely Red Riding Hood coming up soon.
Haha, the "Tide to Go" might be a good gift for the guy to buy himself a tube too… that is if the lady in his life does all the laundry, she would really appreciate that. This is a great list, FB. Think I'll send my hubby by for some ideas. π
My recent post Review- Jingle Bell Jar
Oh that was in my post on Friday π
Thanks for this! I am certain that shopping for the Honeybee's stocking stuffers are going to be a lot easier this year!
All the best,
Len

I feel like not much of a "girl" since the only one of those I'd want is the caffeine necklace – and that only because I'm a Chemist. =)
You should really visit thinkgeek.com You\’d probably love that awesome math clock they have.
Oh yah, I'm a big fan of Think Geek. =)
BF gets their print catalog too… we both geek out a lot over most of the stuff.
OMGEE those chewie plushes are to die for! they remind me of my dog π ehhe
My recent post Happy Thanksgiving
I knew I had to put them in there!
Not anything awesome or amazing, but I would be lost without my magic bullet's easy smoothie making abilities, since I drink one every day. I started over a year ago, and now my morning just doesn't seem complete without my yummy drink. If the motor on it broke (due to the wear of daily frozen berry crushing), I would be asking for another for Christmas/birthday!
I also think you should do one for guys! They are difficult to shop for! I'm stumped for my younger brother, but my older brother and his wife are getting a winery tour experience for Christmas.
Just happened today π
I use my large immersion blender for smoothies but I haven\’t lately. No inspiration.
The Coco Chanel book really appeals to me as does the Apple Ipod, but then the gifts are not for me to buy for myself. LOL π
My recent post My Thoughts About Christmas Spending
Great ideas, FB!
I've been looking for that Urban Decay Naked pallet with no luck. π
I want a chunky necklace, too. I think I may be ready for one now, after training myself a year on normal necklaces π
My recent post Public Transit Thoughts
LOL! π \”Training on normal necklaces\” Well, chunky necklaces are a huge part of my collection. There\’s something nice about them, a heavy sort of feel.
Rosebud salve is also at Sephora. I can vouch that I got this as a gift a few years ago and had never tried it, and now it is one of my very favorite things! I try to keep one in my purse at all times. You can stock up when you get the "best of sephora" gift!
Great rest of the list, too.
My recent post How my friends have saved me money
Oh yeah? In the little tube form??
hm… not sure. i like the pot form, so don't even look for the tube. i'll check next time i'm there!
My recent post A Woman’s Weakness- Gourmet Kitchen Cookwares
It\’s the only reason why I buy it at Urban Outfitters. I don\’t like dipping my finger into goop.
Niiiiceeee π I like them all, too bad I can't get inspiration from here to buy something for my mom. She'd be all "awww… you didn't have to pay so much… " look at it once and then forget all about it. π
I'm especially keen on the Sephora favorites (am a big Sephora fan)… wonder if they sell it in the stores here. π
Maybe what you mom wants is just a nice homecooked meal?
This is a great gift guide! I love the way you organized it all by price. I've been doing my gift guides by person and then providing a gift at each price range but this is fun!
Thanks!
My recent post Night out with the girls
You\’re welcome π
I like visuals and prices (of course), seeing as I never buy anything without knowing the cost π
I love this this. I always was drawn to those pages in the Sears Catalogue when I'm older that showed gifts for kids under $x and this is even better π
My recent post Stocking Stuffers
AWw thank you π
This is motivating me to do one for guys, except I don\’t know what boys want. BF never wants anything.
This post is sweet!!! Thanks you have some great ideas (i.e. GPS and Jewelery), and I will have to bookmark this post specifically for the holidays π
Thank you! π I really appreciate it.
