Lately I’ve seen a real resurgence in rain boots appearing in winter.
They make sense in a slightly twisted way – they’re waterproof and go up to your knees, so they’re slush proof as well, and kinda cute..
While they’re cute and somewhat practical given the circumstances, they can’t possibly keep your feet warm in the winter, even if you’re wearing 2 layers of that ultra warm thinsulate wool sock stuff…
Maybe this is a new trend in response to UGGs?
Has anyone else seen this, or has this been a Canadian thing?
i live in vancouver, and they’re all over. granted, so are uggs, but i think you definitely need a (cute) pair of those in the city.
Laura: I’m thinking about buying a pair just for when it gets to be spring and much more wet outside…
Rae: Iv’e seen a real resurgence…
Meg: I’d go for them for practicality purposes, not so much because of fashion but they ARE cute 🙂
I’ve seen some absolutely adorable rain boots online, but it doesn’t rain that much here in Florida — else I would so wear them. Even in summer when it rains pretty much every afternoon, it usually doesn’t last even half an hour. However, that hasn’t stopped a couple people I’ve seen from wearing them with shorts on a sunny day.
^^ Rainboots are cute, but I actually haven’t seen anyone in them recently. And I’m in Canada, so…
Yup I’ve definitely seen wellies as winter footwear all over the city here! But I’m from Vancouver where wellies are perfectly appropriate for this time of year, being that it generally rains all season. Love the cute designs you posted.
Athena: Hmm you’re right. I saw that too, when it was slightly warmer.. It makes me want a pair
Alexandra: Well you’re right. Being dry is the first step to everything. I hate having wet socks and wet boots. It drives me mad… I’ve never owned a pair before so I don’t know what they feel like..
Mel: LOL!!!!! My WTF moment was seeing girls wear UGGs with miniskirts when it was 75 and sunny 😉
Savingdiva: .. that doesn’t make sense to me either. Miniskirts in winter. They’re nuts. All of them. At least get a coat that covers your legs!!!
I haven’t seen them out…I live in a cold area…so girls still wear the uggs with jean miniskirts (even when it’s below zero)…
The thing that drove me nuts was when I was in college and I would see girls walking to class wearing rainboots and miniskirts when it was 75 and sunny. WTF?
I have seen them around Toronto sicne earlier in the fall. I’m thinking they’re quite practical given that they keep the slush/ water/ salt off your proper shoes ( which I’m assuming you’d change into when arriving at work)…As for the warmth factor, baing at least dry is a step in the right direction, at least.
Personally, I have still some issues with wearing shoes made of basically rubber ( I must have been scarred by crocs)
I’ve only noticed them being worn when it’s not super cold out — when the temp is above 0* and hence slushy.
Strange to think global warming is affecting fashion!
